There were decades in my life where the only place I'd read novels was in airport lounges and lonely hotel rooms, and each time I'd think how much I was enjoying reading and how many good pieces of writing I was missing. Now I can't even fit into my waking hours all I want to do (a common complaint anyway!) and I still miss reading recent ones. If I buy one I am mean enough to be determined to read it though....

The privet gives us wonderful privacy and a safer home for little birds (sometimes!) but there's no doubt, it is a pest and hard to maintain.Denis Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12786035137418348609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5722735165669239585.post-210020990419854592012-03-04T19:07:02.590+11:002012-03-04T19:07:02.590+11:00PS I'm sure you're right about the overall...PS I'm sure you're right about the overall time taken, by the way - just disputing the WSC timing - AND I think I grossly underestimated the length of hedge dealt with, which must be 8 metres. I do you an injustice!

Or did you go via the Hadron Collider? You would not load up and get out to the WSC and be ready to unload in just 10 minutes!

But I'm prepared to agree with anything you say right now - any of you Angels. :)

I had used the word 'tip' too, but changed it, knowing that it wasn't quite the old fly-blown place any more....Denis Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12786035137418348609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5722735165669239585.post-70468390854887468852012-03-04T12:45:56.067+11:002012-03-04T12:45:56.067+11:00You are right on all counts, Annie. I have to thank the privet for giving me an earlier warning than I might otherwise have received.

And you remind me of something else I meant to say; that my illness was hardly the poor privet's fault! Still, it was so highly symbolic to me that it had to go. That particular cancerous bit anyway. The rest of the hedge is intact (and needs a trim!) and in the end we are all connected with the things around us, aren't we?Denis Wrighthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12786035137418348609noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5722735165669239585.post-79655726206828193502012-03-04T12:33:38.186+11:002012-03-04T12:33:38.186+11:00I told a friend of mine that I would be away from ...I told a friend of mine that I would be away from the Pottery Club for 2 hours while a group of us removed an unwanted tree from a friend's garden. Guess what? Two hours on the dot. Denis, you'd better get your watch checked. I reckon a round-trip to the tip took about 10 minutes at the most, and we found a much better source of garden mulch than the tip in Uralla.

Actually, "tip" is an old, derogatory word for what is now the Waste Management Centre, complete with gardens, nice buildings, and a park-like setting. Still stinks, though. A fancy name can't get rid of that part.

It was a pleasure to finally have been able to do something useful for you, Denis.Joanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04715081266571704126noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5722735165669239585.post-66547438652061435792012-03-04T10:54:57.884+11:002012-03-04T10:54:57.884+11:00Thanks so much to your wonderful family and friend...Thanks so much to your wonderful family and friends, Uncle Den, for doing something those of us so far away could not do. I guess you could view your enemy as your friend in one regard, for without it you may not have discovered your current path and treatment would have been delayed....or maybe it is better to not know some things. I don't know. But I do know I'm so glad there are wonderful people around you.Annenoreply@blogger.com
