Just before I do anything else....

I have a heap of things I want to do today. My waking life is, as my dear old Uncle Vic used to say, 'as full as a state school'. So for the moment I will just post six thoughts from others that have come my way in the past week or so, and resonated with me.

Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, 'I will try again tomorrow.' M. Radmacher

Solitude is the place of purification. Martin Buber

Grief can take care of itself, but to get the full value of joy you must have somebody to divide it with. Mark Twain

A free people claim their rights as derived from the laws of nature, and not as the gift of their magistrate.” Thomas Jefferson

Courage is knowing what not to fear. Plato

But for mine, this is the best one of all:

The most important question in the world is, 'Why is the child crying?' Alice Walker

  1. Each one very special.Thank you for those. I have a couple of more jokey (but oh so true) Mark Twain's for you:

'Do not undervalue the headache. While it is at its sharpest it seems a bad investment, but when the relief begins ,the unexpired remainder is worth $4 a minute'.

    And
'He had much experience of physicians, and said 'the only way to keep your health is to eat what you don't want, drink what you don't like, and do what you'd druther not'. :)

  2. Both have too much truth in them to be comfortable! Mark Twain was an amazing guy. I pose this question: if a diet of raw kelp and *nothing else* guaranteed you would live to be at least 100, would you want to? :)

  3. Does this mean you have investigated the raw kelp option? Heheh. Because you are too smart to suggest it if it wasn't viable. I guess it has everything, nutritionally. Anyway, I bet that a few ingredients could be added and it would still be effective -eg sweet potato and fish -as in Okinawa. They do lots of physical work well into their old age, too.

  4. Call me a dummy then, Julie, as I was using as an example the thing that would make me throw up if I ate it! It's not viable AFAIK, and I don't suggest anyone try it in the hope it's going to do anything useful.

Nope, no additives allowed in my scenario! Funnily enough, we DO have grilled fish and sweet potato quite often, and enjoy it a lot. I guess I am really referring to quality of life.

  5. It ain't what you don't know that gets you into trouble. It's what you know for sure that just ain't so.
I love this Mark Twain quote. Al Gore used it very conveniently!
